Fortunately, there are several things you can do to fix the 0xc000007b error message before you lose all hope! But first...what is this error anyway?
Stop your antivirus software
In
order to avoid this issue, you will need to disable or uninstall your antivirus
software. You may also need to disable Defender, which is automatically enabled
on Windows 10 by default. Alternatively, if you know your antivirus is not
causing the issue and that it isn't malware or ransomware, create an Exception
for one of the programs listed under Known Compatibility Issues on Microsoft's
official site below. It is important that you restart your computer before
creating any exceptions.
Click Start and type sysdm.cpl
The
System Protection service failed, this is typically caused by a lack of disk
space on the system partition. This can also be caused by high levels of
fragmentation on a volume. Resolve this issue by checking that there is at
least 150MB of available space on the drive and delete any unnecessary files.
Choose System Properties
Open
System Properties and go to Advanced. Press on Environment Variables and change
the Value for 'Program Files' from C:\Program Files to C:\Program Files (x86).
Click OK. Close System Properties and restart your computer.
Choose Advanced System Settings on left-hand side
First,
click on Advanced System Settings. On the left-hand side of your window, you
will see a list of options. Click on Environment Variables. From there, click
on System Variables and type %windir%\system32\appraiser.efi into Variable
Value. Now you should be able to start up any application with no issues.
Click on Environment Variables... under Advanced
The
Environment Variables dialog will open with User Variables and System Variables
displayed. From here, you can change your system variables by double-clicking
on it, adding or deleting values, or changing values. System variables cannot
be deleted from this dialog, but they can be disabled from here as well. To
access the user variables that are set for your account, click on New User
Variable. This is where you would edit any of the currently configured system
variables.
Under System variables, find Path
Find
and edit the Path variable by navigating to Control Panel > System and
Security > System. Under System variables, find Path, double-click it, and
then type the full path of your application's executable file.
Add ;C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone;%Path% at the end of it.
